Men Who Can't Love This book saved me from going crazy and from wasting any more of my precious time with a man who is a consumate commitmentphobic. I got this book after a therapist friend of mine said that all my complaining and moaning about my commitmentphobic boyfriend sounded just like the people in this book she'd read - "Men Who Can't Love". I got on line and nabbed a copy. What a life saver! My jaw dropped as I read this book because it describes the behaviors of commitmentphobics precisely as I have been experiencing my boyfriend's behavior. It's so true that the more I pressed him for answers while trying to understand his avoidant behaviors, the more he withdrew from me. "I don't wanna talk about it" is his mantra. All his behaviors were laid out like his biography in this book. It was shocking and revealing at the same time.

I Hate You, Don't Leave Me: Understanding the Borderline Personality This is a great book for an inside look at Borderline Personality Disorder. If you have a person with BPD in life this book is a must have. If you have BPD it will help you understand that some of your behaviors that seem unusual to other are understandable and can be explained and treated.

Let me enlighten you with a male perspective. I do not believe at all in this commitment phobic philosophy. This term is used as an attempt to ease the misfortune of a terminated relationship. An analogy is when something doesn't happen as planned in one's life, they ease their misfortune by believing that it must not have been in God's plan, which is a crock of shit as well, because there is no such master plan to begin with.

The truth is that people won't commit because they feel that there may be someone better for them than the person they are currently with. Rather than being mature and honest about it by severing the ties, they prefer to let the woman "mess up", so to speak, so that it can warrant a break up without the man feeling or looking guilty. The reason the man may come back to the relationship has nothing to do with confusion. He just can't stand the thought of the woman possibly becoming intimate with someone else, so he is in limbo with the relationship (one foot in, one foot out).

In addition, the man has become so comfortable and accustomed to the routines of the relationship, that he is afraid to be without her and search for the one that will truly allow him commit. Just like a drug. A drug addict may know that the drug(woman) is not right for him, but continues because it's an addiction. To sum this up, if I found someone who was gorgeous, stimulated my mind, and possessed other admirable attributes, then I would have no problem committing. The dilemma is that I tend to lower my expectations, (as most men), and just settle for someone in the beginning, and building a relationship out of that only leads to the inevitable.
