This book saved me from going crazy and from wasting any more of my precious time with a man who is a consumate commitmentphobic. I got this book after a therapist friend of mine said that all my complaining and moaning about my commitmentphobic boyfriend sounded just like the people in this book she'd read - "Men Who Can't Love". I got on line and nabbed a copy. What a life saver! My jaw dropped as I read this book because it describes the behaviors of commitmentphobics precisely as I have been experiencing my boyfriend's behavior. It's so true that the more I pressed him for answers while trying to understand his avoidant behaviors, the more he withdrew from me. "I don't wanna talk about it" is his mantra. All his behaviors were laid out like his biography in this book. It was shocking and revealing at the same time.

When you are starting a new relationship, one of the first things you need to realize is whether your man has a phobia of committing. When you spot the signs early, you are saving yourself a lot of heartache and pain down the road. There are signs of a commitment phobic man that will help you avoid getting too attached. You should look for these signs even if you do not think he is afraid of committing. Some men are able to hide it well until it comes time to actually commit. Some men just cannot commit and it does not come out until you try to turn it into a long-term relationship.

One of the best signs of a commitment phobic man is his dating history. Most new couples have the past relationship talk as a way to get to know each other better. If his past is full of short relationships where it was obvious he was the reason they did not work, this is a huge sign he cannot commit. On the other hand, if he only had one or two short lived relationships, he probably is not afraid of committing. You need to be weary of several short term ones. Better yet, if he never has had a long term relationship, he is afraid of committing.

Another one of the common signs of a commitment phobic man is how he places his blame. If he always is blaming you for every tiny thing wrong in the relationship, he probably is afraid of committing. This type of guy typically cannot own up to his own faults, so everything will be your fault. This leads to another sign. They often set traps for women. When they are blaming you constantly, they could then start to say that this relationship is not working. They wanted out of it, so they blamed you as a way to end the relationship.

One of the often overlooked signs of a commitment phobic man is he usually will have a long list of qualities a woman must possess before dating them. This makes it easier for them to back out of relationships because there usually is no way a woman could match all the necessary qualities. Men know this, so they make them impossible to match. You could have the majority of the qualities, but if you do not have one of them, they often say that is the most important one to them.
